When it comes to buying a compact SUV in Toronto, there are plenty of high-quality choices, including the 2016 Toyota RAV4 and the 2016 Mazda CX-5. When it comes to deciding between these two strong competitors, it comes down to figuring out what your needs are, and then getting behind the wheel of each model in order to determine which one fulfills these needs.

Choosing between the 2016 Toyota RAV4 and the 2016 Mazda CX-5 in Toronto

In 2014, Toyota redesigned the RAV4 in order to make it a little bit sportier and a little bit more fun to drive. When Mazda engineers designed the 2016 Mazda CX-5, they made it fun to drive from the start. Powered by either one of its two available engines, the CX-5 is always a blast to drive in and around Toronto.

The base model CX-5 comes with a 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers 155 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. This engine can be paired with either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic gearbox. The second engine choice is a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that delivers 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque. The most powerful engine in the CX-5 lineup can only be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive are available in the 2016 Mazda CX-5, just like they are both available in the 2016 Toyota RAV4 in Toronto.

While the 2016 RAV4 has a starting price of $25,240, the 2016 CX-5 starts at $22,995. As you move up in trims and features, the prices of both compact SUVs are approximately similar, as is the case with every model in this crowded segment, but in terms of base models, the CX-5 has a slight edge in terms of pricing.
