According to two reports coming from Japan and Australia, Mazda has apparently given the green light for the development of the next-generation RX model. Based on the spectacular RX-Vision concept that was unveiled at last year’s Tokyo Auto Show, the new RX-9 would be unveiled at the next auto show in Tokyo while the production 2020 model will follow two years later.
A Lot More Power in the 2020 Mazda RX-9
The 2020 Mazda RX-9 could be powered by an all-new Wankel 1.6-liter turbocharged engine which could deliver up to 400 horsepower! Given that the car will be extremely light (2,800 pounds according to early reports), the Mazda RX-9 will more than likely be a little rocket, both on the street and on the track.
The previous Mazda RX-7 became a legend, while the model that followed was known for its high-revving engine and motorcycle-like agility. If all goes according to plan, the next Mazda RX-9 will keep these traits while improving in every way conceivable.
