A panel of 12 technology experts and members of the Automotive Journalists Association of Canada handed Mazda one of its most prestigious awards for its all-new G-Vectoring Control system. Named AJAC’s Best New Innovation Technology Award, Mazda’s GVC is certainly a unique technology that will find its way onto all new Mazda vehicles in the future as standard equipment. It is currently offered on the 2017 Mazda3 as well as the Mazda6 and upcoming 2017 Mazda CX-5.

Comfort at the heart of Mazda’s new G-Vectoring Control technology

Although Mazda is known for the sporty driving characteristics of its models, G-Vectoring Control is not intended to improve performance as much as overall comfort. Part of Mazda’s SKYACTIV-VEHICLE DYNAMICS SUITE of technologies which are designed to enhance the driving experience by providing complete control over the engine, transmission, body and chassis, GVC uses to SKYACTIV engine’s torque not to improve cornering speeds, but to make the overall drive smoother and more linear by delivering unified control over longitudinal and latitudinal acceleration forces.

In other words, you won’t feel your body moving from side to side or front to back as much when driving at low or moderate speeds and your torso and head will remain more stable.

GVC is great in the city, but it is also very effective on the highway. The system optimizes loading for maximum grip on each tire which means that the car is more stable in a straight line and requires less steering inputs from the driver to maintain a direct path. Moreover, on a slippery surface, steering response and overall stability is greatly improved which means that the driver feels more in control. This in turn leads to improved overall driver confidence and a more enjoyable drive.

“Our Mazda engineers have an obsession with the perfection of driving dynamics for our vehicles, and they invested a lot of time and effort into developing this technology, which is possible only because of the advancements made by SKYACTIV Technology,” said Rob Murdoch, National Manager, Technical Services, Mazda Canada. “GVC is just another example of the passion for driving that runs through our veins, and we’re honoured to receive this award.”
