The 2017 Mazda CX-5 was unveiled at the last Los Angeles International Auto Show last November, and since then the new generation of the Mazda compact SUV has attracted a lot of attention. It should come as no surprise that the CX-5 is this popular even before it reaches the market when we know how well the previous CX-5 did in terms of sales.

Here are three things to know about the 2017 Mazda CX-5

It will offer a new diesel engine

The biggest news with the new 2017 Mazda CX-5 engine is the addition of a 2.2-liter SKYACTIV-D diesel engine that will join the CX-5 range by the end of the year. More fuel-efficient while offering high performance, this engine promises to stand out on several levels. With the addition of the diesel engine, the CX-5 will offer something very few other vehicles in its segment can: an engine that is smooth and packs plenty of torque with the consumption rating of a small sedan.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 will still be offered with the 2.0-liter SKYACTIV four-cylinder engine that delivers 155 horsepower as standard, while a 2.5-liter SKYACTIV engine developing 184 horsepower will be optional. All-wheel drive and an automatic transmission will be available.

It will be even more comfortable

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 will be even more comfortable than the model it replaces, thanks to more soundproofing, but also because of the addition of G-Vectoring Control technology.

This system uses engine torque to stabilize the Mazda CX-5 on both the highway and the city. Concretely, we feel less of the body movements in the passenger compartment when we are driving around in the city, and there are fewer corrections to the steering wheel to be made when driving on the highway. Exclusive to Mazda, G-Vectoring Control is one of the most impressive technologies to be unveiled this year.

Its design is more refined

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 features a more rounded and slender style seen from the outside, but it is also more aggressive and muscular. In other words, it is easy to recognize the new generation, but on the other hand the model retains the visual characteristics that made the previous model so appealing to many consumers.

Inside, a better finish and more upscale materials give the 2017 Mazda CX-5 a more luxurious feel. There are also several new technologies and an easy-to-use infotainment system.
